The Crown of Aragon was a medieval kingdom and federation that encompassed several territories in the northeastern part of the Iberian Peninsula, including Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands, among others. It emerged in the 12th century and maintained its independence until it was united with the Kingdom of Castile in the 15th century, forming the basis of modern-day Spain.
