damping ratio
The damping ratio is a measure of the rate at which the oscillations in a system decrease in response to a disturbance or force applied to the system. It determines how fast the system returns to equilibrium after being displaced. A higher damping ratio results in faster decay of oscillations, while a lower damping ratio can lead to sustained oscillations or even instability in the system.
