dark pools and alternative trading venues
Dark pools are private electronic trading platforms or venues that allow large institutional investors to trade securities anonymously. They operate off public exchanges, and their main purpose is to facilitate large block trades with minimal market impact. Alternative trading venues refer to any trading platform or venue that is an alternative to traditional stock exchanges. These venues can include dark pools, but also encompass other platforms like electronic communication networks (ECNs) and alternative trading systems (ATSs). They provide additional options for investors to trade securities outside of the traditional exchange environment.
