endangered languages
Endangered languages are languages that are at risk of becoming extinct due to declining numbers of speakers and lack of intergenerational transmission. This occurs when speakers of the language switch to using a dominant language in their community, often as a result of social, political, or economic pressures. In order to prevent languages from becoming endangered or extinct, efforts need to be made to revitalize and preserve them through language education, documentation, and maintenance programs.
