fraunhofer diffraction
Fraunhofer diffraction refers to the bending or spreading out of waves as they pass through a small aperture or around an obstacle, causing the formation of a diffraction pattern. This phenomenon occurs in the far field region, where the wavefront is approximately plane and the diffracted pattern can be mathematically described using Fourier transforms.
