mach systems (mach 1, mach 2, etc.)

Mach systems, such as Mach 1, Mach 2, etc., refer to the speed of an object relative to the speed of sound in the surrounding medium. Mach 1 represents the speed of sound, which is about 343 meters per second in dry air at sea level. Each subsequent Mach number denotes a multiple of that speed. For example, Mach 2 is twice the speed of sound, Mach 3 is three times the speed of sound, and so on.
