Mao's Great Leap Forward refers to a large-scale economic and social campaign initiated by Chinese leader Mao Zedong in 1958. The policy aimed to rapidly transform the country into an industrial powerhouse and fulfill communist ideals through collectivization of agriculture and rapid industrialization. However, it resulted in disastrous consequences including widespread famine, economic instability, and millions of deaths due to inadequate planning and unrealistic targets.
