Mountain and valley breezes are local winds that occur when differential heating of the land and surrounding areas create air movements. During the day, the mountains heat up more quickly than the valleys, causing air to rise up the mountain slopes, called mountain breezes. At night, the valleys cool faster than the mountains, causing air to flow downhill into the valleys, known as valley breezes.
