ozone depletion and recovery
Ozone depletion refers to the gradual thinning of the ozone layer, primarily in the Earth's stratosphere, due to the release of certain chemicals and pollutants. This thinning allows more harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun to reach the Earth's surface, which can have detrimental effects on human health, ecosystems, and the environment. Ozone recovery, on the other hand, refers to the slow but significant healing and restoration of the ozone layer, mainly achieved through global efforts to reduce the production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances, such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and halons.
