power usage effectiveness (pue)
Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is a metric used to assess the efficiency of a data center in regard to its energy consumption. It is calculated by dividing the total power used by the data center by the power consumed by the IT equipment. The lower the PUE, the more efficient the data center is considered, as it signifies less power is being consumed by non-IT components such as cooling and lighting. A PUE value of 1 indicates optimal efficiency, meaning all power is solely used by the IT equipment. PUE helps organizations evaluate and improve their data center efficiency, leading to cost savings and reduced environmental impact.
