Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe and disabling form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that affects a small number of women. It is characterized by intense physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms that occur in the week or two before the start of menstruation and significantly disrupt daily functioning.
