shift register

A shift register is a digital circuit that is used for storing and moving data in a serial manner. It consists of a series of flip-flops connected in cascade, with the output of one flip-flop connected to the input of the next. Data is shifted through the register either left or right, depending on the configuration, typically controlled by a clock signal. This allows for parallel-to-serial or serial-to-parallel conversion of data, as well as other applications such as data storage, delay, and waveform generation.
