tangents and normals
Tangents and normals are geometric terms used in calculus to describe the relationship between a curve and a point on the curve. A tangent is a straight line that touches the curve at a point, sharing the same instantaneous direction. A normal is also a straight line, but it intersects the curve at a right angle, perpendicular to the tangent line.
