White dwarfs are dense remnants of stars that have exhausted their nuclear fuel and collapsed under their own gravity. They are typically about the size of Earth but contain a mass similar to that of the Sun. As they no longer produce energy, they cool down over billions of years, eventually becoming dim and fading away.
