x-inactivation
X-inactivation, also known as lyonization, is a natural process that occurs in female mammals where one of the two X chromosomes in each cell is randomly inactivated. This ensures equal gene expression between males and females by compensating for the presence of two X chromosomes in females and one X chromosome in males.
