The Yom Kippur War was a conflict that took place in 1973 between Israel and a coalition of Arab states, led by Egypt and Syria. It lasted for roughly three weeks and was largely fought in the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights. The war began with a surprise attack by the Arab coalition on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, hence the name.
