carbon cap-and-trade
Carbon cap-and-trade is a market-based approach that aims to reduce carbon emissions by setting a limit ("cap") on the total amount of carbon dioxide that can be emitted by industries or entities. Companies are issued permits for a certain amount of emissions, and can buy or sell these permits in a regulated marketplace ("trade"), allowing businesses to economically manage their emissions while incentivizing the overall reduction of greenhouse gases.
