Friedrich Hayek was an influential economist and philosopher known for his advocacy of free-market economics and critique of socialist economic systems. He believed that free markets were the most efficient way to allocate resources and that government intervention would lead to economic inefficiency and loss of individual freedom. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1974.
