mitochondrial eve
Mitochondrial Eve is a concept in genetics that refers to the most recent common ancestor of all living humans through the maternal line. This individual is believed to have lived in Africa around 200,000 years ago. Mitochondrial Eve is not the only human ancestor, but rather represents a reference point for tracing the genetic lineage passed down exclusively through the maternal mitochondria.
