The Morris worm was one of the earliest computer worms, released in 1988, and designed to spread across the internet, infecting computers and causing disruptions. It exploited vulnerabilities in Unix systems, replicated itself, and overwhelmed networks, leading to the creation of the first computer emergency response team (CERT) to combat such threats.
