nominalism vs. realism

Nominalism is the philosophical view that abstract concepts, such as numbers and universals, do not have an independent existence and are merely names or labels we assign to individual objects. Realism, on the other hand, posits that these abstract concepts have an objective existence outside of human thought and that they represent a real aspect of the world.
