opioid receptors
Opioid receptors are proteins located on the surface of cells in the body, particularly in the brain and spinal cord, that bind to opioid drugs and natural opioids, such as endorphins. Activation of these receptors can produce pain relief, euphoria, and other effects associated with opioids, but can also lead to addiction and other negative outcomes.
