dark matter and dark energy
Dark matter is a type of matter that cannot be directly observed or detected because it does not interact with light or other forms of electromagnetic radiation. It makes up about 85% of the matter in the universe and its presence is inferred through its gravitational effects on visible matter and galaxies. Dark energy, on the other hand, is a hypothetical form of energy that is believed to be responsible for the accelerated expansion of the universe. It is characterized by negative pressure, and though its nature is not fully understood, it appears to counteract the force of gravity, pushing galaxies and other cosmic structures apart.
