melkite schism
The Melkite Schism refers to the split that occurred within the Melkite Greek Catholic Church in the 18th century. It involved a disagreement over the appointment of bishops by the Pope, as some members sought more autonomy from Rome. As a result, a faction broke away and formed the Melkite Greek Orthodox Church, while the remaining group continued as the Melkite Greek Catholic Church.
