nestorian schism
The Nestorian Schism refers to the split in the Christian Church in the 5th century over theological differences regarding the nature of Christ. Nestorius, the Archbishop of Constantinople, proposed that Jesus was two separate persons, one divine and one human, which contradicted the established belief in the unity of Christ's divine and human natures. This controversy led to his condemnation as a heretic and the separation of Nestorian Christians from the Byzantine Orthodox Church.
