donatist schism
The Donatist Schism refers to a Christian theological dispute in the 4th and 5th century AD in the Roman Empire. It involved a breakaway Christian sect known as the Donatists who believed that the sacraments administered by priests who had previously renounced their faith during the persecution of Christians were invalid. The schism resulted in a separate movement with its own bishops and churches, separate from the Orthodox Catholic Church.
