redshift and blueshift
Redshift and blueshift refer to changes in the wavelength of light caused by the motion of an object towards or away from an observer. Redshift occurs when the light waves lengthen, causing the light to shift towards longer wavelengths. Blueshift occurs when the light waves shorten, causing the light to shift towards shorter wavelengths. These shifts provide information about the velocity and direction of objects in space.
