taifa kingdoms
"Taifa kingdoms" refers to a series of independent Islamic states that emerged in Al-Andalus (medieval Muslim Spain) following the disintegration of the Umayyad Caliphate in the 11th century. These autonomous entities were governed by different Muslim leaders and exercised political and territorial control over specific regions, often engaging in conflicts and alliances with one another and with neighboring Christian kingdoms.
