tordesillas treaty
The Treaty of Tordesillas was an agreement signed in 1494 between Spain and Portugal, dividing the newly discovered lands outside Europe. The treaty established an imaginary line dividing these territories, giving Portugal rights to explore and trade the land to the east of the line, while Spain gained rights to the land to the west.
