insulin resistance and inflammation
Insulin resistance refers to a condition in which the cells in our body become less responsive to the effects of insulin hormone. This leads to higher levels of insulin in the blood as the pancreas produces more to compensate, resulting in difficulty regulating blood sugar levels. Inflammation, on the other hand, is a natural response by the body to protect and heal itself from harmful stimuli. It involves increased blood flow, immune cell activation, and release of various signaling molecules. However, chronic or excessive inflammation can be damaging and contribute to the development of certain diseases. When insulin resistance and inflammation occur together, they can create a vicious cycle. Inflammation can promote insulin resistance, and insulin resistance can increase inflammation. This connection is believed to play a significant role in the development of conditions like type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.
