insulin resistance and low-carb diets
Insulin resistance refers to a condition where cells in the body do not effectively respond to insulin, a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels. This leads to higher insulin levels in the blood, as the body tries to compensate for the decreased response. Low-carb diets, on the other hand, are eating plans that limit carbohydrate intake, which in turn reduces the body's need for insulin. By consuming fewer carbs, insulin resistance can potentially be improved or prevented, as the body excretes less insulin to maintain blood sugar levels.
