glycosylation and autoimmune diseases

Glycosylation refers to the process whereby sugar molecules are attached to proteins or lipids in the body, affecting their structure and function. Autoimmune diseases are conditions where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own cells or tissues. The aberrant glycosylation of proteins or lipids can contribute to the development or progression of autoimmune diseases by triggering an immune response against these modified molecules.
